Dog-Friendly Beaches with No Summer Restrictions
Why Year-Round Dog Beaches Matter
Many UK beaches restrict dogs during summer months, typically May to September. This guide focuses on beaches where your dog can run freely all year, so you never have to worry about seasonal bans.
Our Top Year-Round Dog Beaches
1. Holkham Beach, Norfolk - Vast, wild beach backed by pine forest. Dogs allowed year-round with no restrictions. One of the finest beaches in England.
2. Bamburgh Beach, Northumberland - Golden sand beneath the castle walls. Year-round dog access. Often deserted even in summer.
3. Rhossili Bay, Gower - Three miles of sand with no summer restrictions. Spectacular clifftop approach walk.
4. Studland South Beach, Dorset - National Trust beach with year-round dog access on the south section. Old Harry Rocks visible from the sand.
5. Formby Beach, Merseyside - Pine-backed dunes and red squirrel nature reserve. Dogs on leads in the reserve but free on the beach year-round.
6. Whitesands Bay, Pembrokeshire - Spectacular bay near St Davids. Year-round dog access. Surfing, swimming and rock pools.
7. Dunwich Beach, Suffolk - Wild shingle beach at the edge of the drowned medieval city. No restrictions. Atmospheric and unspoiled.
8. Brancaster Beach, Norfolk - Part of the Brancaster Estate. Year-round dog access on the main beach with vast sands at low tide.
9. Beadnell Bay, Northumberland - Quiet sandy bay with harbour. Dogs welcome year-round. Good rock pooling at low tide.
10. Porth Neigwl (Hell's Mouth), Gwynedd - Remote Welsh beach with no restrictions. Popular with surfers and dog walkers who want solitude.
Beach Safety for Dogs
Watch for rip currents and strong tides. Prevent dogs drinking seawater (it causes vomiting and diarrhoea). Rinse your dog after swimming to remove salt. Watch for jellyfish, especially in late summer. Carry fresh water for drinking.
