A Warm Welcome at a Historic Coaching Inn

The Tollemache Inn stands as one of Grantham's finest dog-friendly pubs, offering a genuine welcome to four-legged visitors alongside their owners. Situated on St Peter's Hill in the heart of this historic market town, the pub combines traditional Lincolnshire hospitality with a relaxed atmosphere that makes it a favourite with local dog walkers and visitors passing through the county.

Step inside and you will find a characterful interior that blends exposed brickwork and original beams with comfortable contemporary furnishings. The bar area is spacious and inviting, with flagstone floors that are practical for muddy paws after a walk along the River Witham or through the nearby Belton House estate. Dogs are welcomed throughout the ground floor, and the staff greet canine guests with genuine enthusiasm, often producing treats from behind the bar before you have settled into your seat.

Food, Drink and Dog-Friendly Dining

The kitchen takes pride in its locally sourced menu, with dishes reflecting the best of Lincolnshire produce. Hearty Sunday roasts with Yorkshire puddings and seasonal vegetables sit alongside lighter options such as ploughman's boards and freshly made soups. The pub sources beef from farms in the Belvoir Vale and sausages from a butcher in nearby Harlaxton, giving the menu a genuine sense of place.

A rotating lineup of cask ales features breweries from across the East Midlands, while the wine list offers a carefully chosen range at fair prices. Water bowls are kept filled at several points, and biscuit treats are available on request. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, with dogs a common sight sprawled beneath tables.

Beer Garden and Location

During warmer months the enclosed rear beer garden comes into its own, with picnic tables shaded by mature trees and a safely fenced perimeter ideal for dogs to rest while you enjoy a pint. The Tollemache Inn is perfectly placed for combining a meal with a dog walk. Belton House is a short drive away offering miles of parkland, and the Grantham Canal towpath provides a flat, scenic route that dogs love.

Lovely atmosphere and very dog-friendly. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the wait time for food on a busy Saturday. But the quality was worth the wait!

The perfect post-walk pub. We came in muddy from Belton House and nobody batted an eyelid. Real ales were excellent and the fire was a lovely touch on a cold January afternoon.

Absolutely love this pub! The staff made such a fuss of our Labrador. Water bowl appeared before we even sat down, and dog treats were offered with a smile. The food was excellent too - the Sunday roast is top-notch.
