Beach Overview

Exmouth sits where the River Exe meets the English Channel, offering two miles of sandy beach along the seafront and views across the estuary to Dawlish Warren. The beach marks the western gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, and the red sandstone cliffs to the east are the first dramatic features of this 95-mile stretch of geological history.

Why Dogs Love It

The beach is wide and sandy with firm sand at low tide, perfect for running. The estuary side offers calmer water and fascinating mudflats rich in bird life and interesting smells. Dogs enjoy paddling in the shallows and exploring the rock pools towards Orcombe Point. The seafront promenade provides a pleasant walk when the beach itself is restricted.

Dog Access

Dogs are banned from the main town beach between 1 May and 30 September. However, dogs are welcome year-round east of Orcombe Point, where the beach becomes wilder and less crowded. The Exe Estuary trail to the west also provides year-round dog walking alongside the water.

Facilities and Access

Multiple car parks along the seafront (pay-and-display). The town has a good range of cafes, pubs and restaurants, many of which are dog-friendly. The Giraffe Cafe on the seafront is popular with dog walkers. Toilets along the promenade. Easy, level access to the beach from the town.
