Gairloch Beach
Inverness, Highland
No restrictions whatsoever. Dogs welcome year-round with complete off-lead freedom.
Beach Overview
Gairloch Beach (also known as Big Sand) is a stunning crescent of pale sand on the north-west Highland coast, facing the open Atlantic with views to the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides. The beach is wild, remote and rarely crowded.
Why Dogs Love It
This is a dream beach for dogs. The sand is vast and firm at low tide, the water is clean (if cold), and on most days you will have the beach entirely to yourselves. The dunes behind provide shelter from the Atlantic wind, and the rock pools at either end are endlessly fascinating. Otters and seals are occasionally spotted.
Dog Access
Dogs are welcome year-round with no restrictions whatsoever. There are no seasonal rules, no lead requirements, no banned areas. Complete freedom on one of Scotland's most beautiful beaches.
Facilities and Access
Small car park at the beach. No facilities. Gairloch village (2 miles) has shops, cafes and a petrol station. Bring everything you need. The beach is accessed via a short track from the car park.
