Beach Overview

Cromer is a traditional Norfolk seaside town with a beach of firm sand and shingle beneath towering chalk and sandstone cliffs. The Victorian pier extends into the North Sea, and the town above the beach retains its Edwardian charm with independent shops, fish and chip restaurants and the famous Cromer Crab.

Why Dogs Love It

The beach extends for miles in both directions from the pier, and beyond the town centre it becomes wild and uncrowded. Dogs enjoy exploring the rock pools exposed at low tide and sniffing around the groynes. The cliffs provide shelter from southerly winds, and the firm sand is easy on paws. The stretch east towards Overstrand is particularly quiet and scenic.

Dog Access

Dogs are banned from the main beach (between the pier and the promenade steps) between May and September. However, dogs are welcome year-round east of the pier towards Overstrand and west towards Sheringham. These sections are easily accessed from the promenade.

Facilities and Access

Multiple car parks in town. The seafront has several cafes and the famous No. 1 Cromer fish and chip shop. Ramp access to the beach near the pier. The promenade provides easy walking above the beach with steps down at various points. Toilets on the promenade.
