Wells Beach
Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk
Small area near beach huts restricted May-September. Vast majority of beach unrestricted year-round.
Beach Overview
Wells Beach is a wide expanse of golden sand reached via a mile-long walk through pine woods from the town, or by driving along the causeway to the beach car park. The beach stretches for miles in both directions, backed by colourful beach huts and the distinctive Norfolk pinewoods that shelter the shore from southerly winds.
Why Dogs Love It
The vast, open sand is paradise for dogs who love to run. At low tide, the beach extends far out, creating pools and channels that dogs love to splash through. The pine woods provide shade and interesting scents, and the walk through the trees to the beach builds anticipation beautifully. The beach is less crowded than neighbouring Holkham, though equally beautiful.
Dog Access
Dogs are welcome year-round on Wells Beach. Seasonal restrictions apply to a small area near the main beach huts between May and September, but the vast majority of the beach has no restrictions at any time. Walk east or west from the main access point for total freedom.
Facilities and Access
Beach car park at the end of the causeway (charges apply, often full in summer). Beach cafe open seasonally. Toilets at the car park. The town of Wells has numerous dog-friendly pubs and cafes, including The Crown Hotel on the Buttlands. The walk from town through the pine woods is about 20 minutes.
