Barafundle Bay
Tenby, Pembrokeshire
Beach Overview
Barafundle Bay is regularly voted one of the best beaches in the world, and the effort required to reach it helps keep it unspoilt. There is no road access: you must walk 15-20 minutes along the coast path from the Stackpole car park, through woodland and over a headland before the beach reveals itself. The reward is a perfect crescent of golden sand framed by limestone cliffs and sheltered woodland.
Why Dogs Love It
The walk in builds excitement, and the beach itself is a paradise of clean sand, clear water and rock pools. The surrounding woodland provides shade and interesting scents. The bay is sheltered and the water is calm, making it one of the best swimming beaches in Wales for dogs. The relative difficulty of access means the beach is never overcrowded, even in August.
Dog Access
Dogs are welcome year-round on Barafundle Bay with no seasonal restrictions. The coast path approach is also fully dog-friendly. The National Trust manages the area and dogs are welcome throughout the Stackpole Estate grounds.
