Beach Overview
Covehithe is one of the most dramatic and wild beaches in Suffolk, a stretch of sand beneath rapidly eroding soft cliffs. The coastline here is being claimed by the sea at an extraordinary rate, making this a constantly changing landscape. Trees lean precariously over the cliff edge, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
Why Dogs Love It
Covehithe is a genuine wild beach where dogs can run in complete freedom. The beach is reached by a 20-minute walk from the car park through farmland and past the ruins of St Andrew's Church, adding to the adventure. At low tide, the sand stretches wide and firm, and the eroded clay cliffs create natural shelters. You may well have the entire beach to yourselves.
Dog Access
Dogs are welcome year-round with no restrictions. On leads through the farmland approach (livestock). Off-lead on the beach. Keep away from the cliff base as falls are possible.
Facilities and Access
Very limited parking (lay-by for a few cars). No facilities. Bring everything you need. The walk in takes 20 minutes through farmland. Nearest facilities in Southwold (3 miles).
