Reading to Sonning Thames Path

Sonning is one of the prettiest villages on the Thames, with an 11th-century bridge, a historic pub on the river and a connection to Jerome K. Jerome who wrote about it in Three Men in a Boat. This walk follows the Thames Path from Reading through river meadows to this Berkshire gem.
The Route
Start from Reading's King's Meadow and follow the Thames Path downstream through Caversham Lock. Continue past houseboats and through meadows to Sonning Lock, one of the oldest on the river. Cross Sonning Bridge into the village, explore the lanes and return along the opposite bank through Sonning Eye back to Reading.

Dogs can be off lead on the meadow sections. The Thames has gentle access for swimming near Sonning Lock. The Bull Inn at Sonning welcomes dogs in the bar. Keep dogs on leads through the village and near the weir. The towpath is flat and easy. Waterfowl are abundant so recall must be reliable near the river.
