Windsor Great Park Circular
Windsor, Berkshire
Windsor Great Park is one of the finest royal parks in England, stretching over 5,000 acres south of Windsor Castle. This circular walk explores the Long Walk, the Savill Garden edges and the deer park, offering a grand day out for dogs and their owners.
The Route
Begin at the Ranger's Gate car park on the A332 and head south along the Long Walk, a three-mile avenue lined with horse chestnut trees leading towards the Copper Horse statue of George III. From there, loop east through the deer park towards Virginia Water, following the lakeside path before curving back north through Smith's Lawn and the Valley Gardens perimeter.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs are welcome throughout Windsor Great Park but must be kept on leads in the deer park between March and July when deer are fawning. The Long Walk is excellent for dogs who enjoy open spaces. Water is available at Virginia Water lake. Some areas near the Savill Garden are restricted.
Practical Information
Free parking at several car parks around the park. The park is open dawn to dusk. The nearest dog-friendly refreshments are in Windsor town centre or at the Savill Garden cafe (dogs in outdoor area only).
