This walk combines the beautiful riverside of the Great Ouse with views of Ely Cathedral, the spectacular "Ship of the Fens" that dominates the flat Cambridgeshire landscape for miles around. Ely is a small cathedral city with a big personality.
The Route
Start from the riverside car park and walk north along the Great Ouse. The towpath is flat and well-maintained, passing narrowboats and willow-lined banks. At the marina, loop west through the country park and return via Cherry Hill Park with its views up to the cathedral. End with a stroll through the cathedral grounds.
Dog-Friendly Details
The riverside path is excellent for dogs with off-lead opportunities along the towpath. Several spots allow easy river access for swimming. The country park section has open grassy areas. Dogs are not allowed inside the cathedral but the grounds are dog-friendly on leads.
