Ashridge Estate Woodland Walk
Ashridge, Hertfordshire
The Ashridge Estate on the Hertfordshire-Buckinghamshire border is a magnificent National Trust property covering 5,000 acres of woodland, commons and chalk downland. This circular walk explores the ancient beech woodland that the estate is famous for.
The route passes through towering beech avenues, open commons and quiet glades. In autumn the beech woodland is spectacular with golden and copper leaves. The estate is home to fallow deer, muntjac and a wide variety of woodland birds.
Dogs are welcome on the estate and there are extensive areas for off-lead walking. The well-maintained paths make this a good all-weather walk, though some woodland sections can be muddy in winter.
