Heartwood Forest near St Albans is England's largest new native forest, planted by the Woodland Trust with over 600,000 trees. This walk combines the young forest with the older woodland and farmland around the village of Sandridge.

The route follows well-signed paths through the developing woodland, across open fields and through the pretty village of Sandridge. In spring, the ancient woodland sections are carpeted with bluebells. The newer plantings are growing well and the landscape changes noticeably each year.

Dogs are welcome throughout Heartwood Forest and there are excellent off-lead opportunities on the wide paths and open areas. The flat terrain makes this accessible for all fitness levels.
