Bewl Water Reservoir Walk
Sevenoaks, Kent
Bewl Water is the largest body of open water in south-east England, a reservoir surrounded by woodland and rolling Kent countryside. The 13-mile circuit around the reservoir is one of the finest waterside walks in the region, though shorter sections provide excellent half-day walks.
The Route
This 5-mile walk follows the eastern shore of the reservoir from the main visitor centre. The path passes through mixed woodland and along the waterside, with views across the reservoir to the wooded hills beyond. The route includes quiet inlets where the water is shallow enough for dog paddling. Turn back at the Rosemary Lane access point or continue for a longer walk.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs can be off-lead on most of the reservoir path, though leads are needed around the visitor centre and water sports areas. The reservoir has numerous access points where dogs can paddle and drink. The woodland sections provide shade on hot days. The paths are well-maintained and mostly flat.
Practical Information
Main car park at the visitor centre (charges apply). The visitor centre has a cafe with outdoor dog-friendly seating. The reservoir offers cycling, fishing and water sports alongside walking. Toilets at the visitor centre.
