Cragside near Rothbury was the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectric power and is set in one of the most extraordinary landscapes in Northumberland. This walk explores the vast estate with its rocky crags, lakes, woodland and dramatic hillside gardens.
The route takes you through the pinetum with its collection of rare conifers, past the lakes and over the iron bridge with views of the house perched dramatically on the cragside above. The estate covers over 1,000 acres with 40 miles of footpaths and drives.
Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the estate grounds. The varied terrain and extensive trail network make this an outstanding destination for dog walkers who want to explore a grand Victorian landscape.
