Clumber Park is a National Trust property centred on a vast, landscaped estate with the longest double lime tree avenue in Europe. This 4-mile walk combines the grand avenue with lakeside paths and peaceful woodland.

The Route

Start at the main visitor centre and head south along the famous Lime Tree Avenue. This extraordinary avenue stretches for over two miles, lined with 1,296 common lime trees planted in 1840. Walking beneath the soaring green tunnel is a remarkable experience, particularly when the trees are in full leaf.

At the southern end, turn east and follow the path alongside the serpentine lake. The lake attracts wildfowl and the peaceful waterside path is a pleasant contrast to the formal avenue. Continue through woodland to the walled garden area, then follow the main drive back past the Gothic chapel to the visitor centre.

Dog-Friendly Details

Dogs are welcome and can be off lead in most areas of the park. The National Trust asks that dogs are on leads near the lake and in the formal garden areas. The park is one of the most popular dog-walking destinations in the East Midlands. Water bowls are provided at the visitor centre and cafe.

Practical Information

National Trust car park charges apply (free for members). The estate is free to enter. The visitor centre has a cafe, shop and toilets. The park is accessible year-round with well-maintained paths. Cycling is popular on the drives so be aware of bikes. The park hosts events throughout the year.
