Dunkeld and the Hermitage Walk
Dunkeld, Perthshire
The Hermitage near Dunkeld is one of Scotland's most popular woodland walks and for good reason. This National Trust for Scotland property features towering Douglas fir trees, a dramatic waterfall and Ossian's Hall, a folly perched above the cascading River Braan.
The trees here are among the tallest in Britain, with some Douglas firs reaching over 60 metres. The path through the gorge is dramatic, with the river rushing through a narrow rocky channel below. Ossian's Hall provides a perfect viewpoint over the Black Linn Falls.
The walk can be extended into Dunkeld town, a beautifully preserved cathedral town on the banks of the River Tay. Dogs enjoy the varied terrain and there are river access points for a paddle.
