Pitlochry Dam and Loch Faskally Walk

This circular walk around Loch Faskally and past the famous Pitlochry Dam with its salmon ladder is one of Highland Perthshire's most popular routes. The walk offers beautiful loch, woodland and mountain views throughout.
The route circles the loch through mixed woodland of oak, birch and pine. The dam and fish ladder are fascinating - salmon can be watched leaping up the ladder between April and October through an underground viewing window. The loch is surrounded by hills and the reflections on still days are superb.
Dogs love this walk with its woodland trails and water access points. The route is well-maintained and suitable for year-round walking. Pitlochry itself has numerous dog-friendly hotels, pubs and cafes.

When can you see salmon at Pitlochry?
Salmon can be seen at the fish ladder between April and October, with the peak period being June to September. The underwater viewing chamber allows you to watch salmon leaping up the ladder. Over 5,000 salmon pass through the ladder each year.
Is the Loch Faskally walk pushchair-friendly?
Most of the circuit is on good paths suitable for pushchairs. There are a few sections with steps or uneven ground where an alternative route can be taken. The walk is well-signed and popular with families.
