Avebury Stone Circle and Windmill Hill Walk
Marlborough, Wiltshire
Avebury is home to the largest stone circle in the world, and this walk explores the Neolithic landscape that surrounds it including Windmill Hill, West Kennet Avenue and the village that sits within the stones. It is one of the most atmospheric walks in southern England.
The route passes through the massive stone circle, follows the avenue of standing stones southward, then crosses farmland to Windmill Hill with its views across the Marlborough Downs. The prehistoric landscape here is unparalleled in Britain.
Dogs are welcome throughout the Avebury landscape. The National Trust manages much of the site and dogs can enjoy the open grassland around the stones. The Red Lion pub in the centre of the stone circle welcomes dogs.
