Dog Amenities
The Pig Shed Cafe is a beautifully converted farm building on the edge of the New Forest, a few minutes from Lyndhurst village centre. It's exactly the kind of place you hope to find after a morning's walk through the Tall Trees trail — warm, unhurried, generous with portions, and completely at ease with muddy dogs piling in off the heath.
What to Expect
The menu is built around local Hampshire produce: New Forest ice cream, proper brunches with sourdough and smoked bacon, hearty soups in winter, and a strong cake selection that rotates through coffee and walnut, lemon drizzle, and a famously dense flapjack. Coffee comes from a small Dorset roaster. There's a cosy beamed interior for colder days and a terrace looking out over the commons, which is where most people head when the sun's out.
Dog-Friendly Facilities

Visiting with Your Dog
Parking is straightforward onsite, and the cafe is positioned so you can walk straight out onto the New Forest heath without needing to move the car. The obvious pairing is the Ober Water or Tall Trees walk, both of which finish within easy reach. A few things worth knowing: the New Forest has free-roaming ponies, cattle and pigs that have right of way — dogs must never be allowed to chase them, and leads are essential near any livestock. From April to July, ground-nesting birds mean some heath sections become lead-only. The cafe is used to hearing those updates from customers and is a good place to pick up current local knowledge before you head out for an afternoon walk.
