The Drunken Duck Inn is a renowned country pub and restaurant perched on a hillside between Ambleside and Hawkshead in the heart of the Lake District. With its own Barngates Brewery producing ales on site, spectacular fell views, and a reputation for excellent food, it has long been one of the most celebrated dog-friendly pubs in the north of England. The building dates back to the 17th century and retains a warm, traditional character with flagstone floors, low beams, and open fires.

Dogs are welcome in the bar area, where water bowls are provided and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The inn sits at the crossroads of numerous fell walks, making it an ideal stopping point for walkers and their dogs. The surrounding countryside is some of the finest in the Lake District, with paths leading out in every direction to lakes, tarns, and hilltops.

Location & Visiting

The Drunken Duck is located on the road between Ambleside and Hawkshead, set back from the B5286. There is a car park at the inn. Dog-friendly rooms are available for overnight stays, making it an excellent base for a walking weekend in the Lakes.
