Lizard Point Coastal Walk
Falmouth, Cornwall
Lizard Point is the southernmost point of mainland Britain, a dramatic headland of serpentine rock plunging into turquoise sea. The coastal walk here combines history, geology and jaw-dropping scenery in one of Cornwall's most memorable stretches.
The Route
Start from Lizard village and follow the coast path south to Lizard Point lighthouse. Continue west along the cliffs to Kynance Cove, widely regarded as one of Britain's most beautiful beaches with its serpentine rock stacks and clear water. The return leg crosses Lizard Downs, an area of rare heathland rich in wildflowers.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs can be off-lead on the coast path and clifftop heathland. Kynance Cove allows dogs year-round but leads are required on the beach during July and August. Some steep sections have steps. The cliffs are unfenced in places, so keep dogs under control near the edge.
Practical Information
National Trust car park in Lizard village and at Kynance Cove. The Most Southerly Point Cafe at Lizard Point is dog-friendly. The Top House pub in the village welcomes dogs. Toilets at both car parks.
