Ennerdale Water Circuit

Ennerdale is one of the quietest and most unspoiled valleys in the Lake District, with no road access along the valley itself. Ennerdale Water sits at its western end, a deep glacial lake surrounded by wild forest and fell. The lack of road means far fewer visitors than other lakes.
The Route
Start from the Bowness Knott car park at the western end of the lake. Follow the southern shore path through native woodland, with the lake shimmering through the trees. At the eastern end, cross the River Liza on stepping stones and return along the northern shore on a forest track. The circuit is mostly flat with gentle undulations.
Dog-Friendly Details
Ennerdale is a wonderful walk for dogs. The quiet atmosphere means fewer distractions, and dogs can swim in the lake at multiple access points along both shores. The forest sections are off-lead friendly. The stepping stones crossing may require care with small dogs in high water.
