This charming walk from New Alresford follows the River Alre and the route of the historic Watercress Line steam railway through the Hampshire countryside. Alresford was once the watercress capital of England and the river remains crystal clear.

The route passes along the river through water meadows, past historic watercress beds and through quiet Hampshire lanes. The chalk stream water is remarkably clear and dogs love paddling in the shallow river sections. The route offers views of steam trains on the preserved Watercress Line railway.

New Alresford is a pretty Georgian town with excellent dog-friendly pubs and restaurants. The walk can be extended to Itchen Abbas along the river for a longer outing.
