Brimham Rocks is a collection of extraordinary natural rock formations on Brimham Moor in Nidderdale. The rocks have been sculpted by 320 million years of erosion into bizarre, gravity-defying shapes with names like the Dancing Bear, the Gorilla and the Idol.

The Route

Start from the National Trust car park and explore the rocks along the waymarked trails. The main circuit passes all the major formations with interpretive panels explaining their geology. Extend the walk by following the path north across the open moor to Brimham Lodge, returning via a quieter track through the heather.

Dog-Friendly Details

Dogs are welcome throughout Brimham Rocks and can be off-lead on the moor and among the rocks. The terrain is varied, including rock paths, heather moorland and grassy tracks. Dogs love exploring the gaps between the rock formations. Some areas involve scrambling over rocks, which most dogs enjoy.
