Henley-on-Thames is famous for its Royal Regatta, but this riverside town offers beautiful year-round walking along the Thames and into the Chiltern Hills. This route combines riverside meadows with a visit to the National Trust's Greys Court, a Tudor manor house with walled gardens.

The Route

Start from Henley Bridge and walk upstream along the Thames Path through the Regatta course. Continue past Temple Island and turn inland through farmland. Climb gently through beech woodland to Greys Court. Explore the grounds (admission required) or continue on public paths before descending through the Chilterns back to Henley.

Dog-Friendly Details

Dogs on leads along the Thames Path near the town. Off lead through farmland (check for livestock). Dogs are welcome in Greys Court grounds on leads. The Thames has gentle access points for swimming near the meadows. Several dog-friendly pubs await in Henley at the finish.

Practical Information

Pay-and-display car parks in Henley town centre. The Angel on the Bridge and The Three Tuns both welcome dogs. Greys Court requires separate admission (free for National Trust members, dogs welcome on leads). Regular bus service from Reading.
