What is the story of Gelert?

The legend tells that Prince Llewelyn left his faithful dog Gelert to guard his baby son. Returning to find the cradle overturned and Gelert covered in blood, he killed the dog in fury. He then discovered his son alive under the cradle with a dead wolf beside him - Gelert had protected the baby. The heartbroken prince buried Gelert and named the village Beddgelert (Gelert grave) in his honour.
