Rother Valley Country Park Circuit
Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Rother Valley Country Park sits on the southern edge of Sheffield, a 740-acre park built on former coalfield land. Four lakes, meadows and woodland create a varied landscape that is hugely popular with dog walkers. The park offers a satisfying circular route around the main lakes.
The Route
Begin at the main car park and follow the lakeside path anti-clockwise around the northern lake. Continue past the watersports centre and along the eastern shore, where reed beds attract wildlife. Cross between the lakes and return along the western side through meadowland. The paths are well-surfaced throughout.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs must be on leads around the main lake and beach area. The meadow sections allow off-lead walking. Dogs are not permitted in the designated swimming area but can access the water at several informal points on the quieter northern shores. Dog waste bins are plentiful throughout.
Practical Information
Pay-and-display car park (reasonable daily rate). Cafe at the visitor centre welcomes dogs in the outdoor area. Toilets available. The park gets busy on summer weekends - early mornings are quieter for dog walking.
