This walk combines the stunning Capability Brown parkland around Warwick Castle with a peaceful stretch of the River Avon. The castle, one of the finest medieval fortresses in England, provides a dramatic backdrop throughout.
The Route
Start from St Nicholas Park and follow the River Avon south past the castle walls. Cross at the old bridge and enter Castle Park, designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century with sweeping lawns and mature cedar trees. Loop through the parkland before returning along the Avon's north bank through the mill garden area.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs are welcome in St Nicholas Park and along the riverside paths on leads. Castle Park has off-lead areas away from the formal gardens. Dogs are not allowed inside Warwick Castle itself. The River Avon has gentle banks for dog swimming at St Nicholas Park. Water bowls are provided at the park cafe.
