Chatsworth Estate Riverside Walk

Chatsworth is one of England's greatest country houses, and its estate in the Derbyshire Dales offers magnificent walking along the River Derwent with the grand house as a backdrop. This walk follows the river through the parkland without needing to pay for house or garden entry.
The Route
Start from the free car park at Calton Lees and walk north along the River Derwent through the deer park. The Palladian bridge and the house come into view across the river. Continue through parkland with ancient oaks to Edensor, a picturesque estate village. Return via the eastern bank past the farmyard and Stand Wood.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs must be on leads throughout the estate (livestock and deer present). The River Derwent has excellent access points for swimming - the shallow gravelly stretches are perfect for dogs. Chatsworth Farmyard and the estate farm shop welcome dogs. The parkland is dry underfoot even in winter.

Free car park at Calton Lees (on the B6012). The estate farm shop has outdoor cafe seating for dogs. The Devonshire Arms in nearby Beeley is excellent. House and garden admission separate. The parkland walk is free. Toilets at Calton Lees.
