Daisy Nook Country Park and Crime Lake
Manchester, Greater Manchester
Daisy Nook Country Park is a green haven in the Medlock Valley between Ashton-under-Lyne and Oldham. Named after a local festival described by writer Ben Brierley, the park has been reclaimed from industrial land and now features woodland, lakes and the Hollinwood Branch Canal.
The Route
Start from the visitor centre car park and follow the path along the River Medlock through the wooded valley. Climb to Crime Lake (named after a Victorian-era murder, not modern danger) for a circuit of its peaceful shores. Continue along the canal towpath, passing lock flights and old mill ruins. Return through the woodland.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs can be off lead through most of the park. The river has shallow paddling spots along the Medlock. Crime Lake is calm and safe for swimming dogs. The canal towpath is flat and easy. Dog waste bins are positioned throughout. The park is a favourite with local dog walking groups.
Practical Information
Free car park at the visitor centre (can fill on sunny weekends). Small cafe at the visitor centre. Toilets available. The park connects to the Medlock Valley Way for longer walks. Well-signed paths throughout.
