Dovestone Reservoir Circuit
Manchester, Greater Manchester
Dovestone Reservoir sits on the edge of the Peak District National Park, just 30 minutes from Manchester city centre. The walk circles the reservoir through moorland and woodland, with dramatic views of the surrounding gritstone edges and the open moors beyond.
The Route
Start from the RSPB Dovestone car park and follow the reservoir path anti-clockwise. The route passes through birch woodland along the western shore before climbing slightly above Yeoman Hey reservoir. Continue around the head of the valley with views up to the dramatic gritstone edges of Chew Brook. The return leg follows the eastern shore on a broad path with views across the water to the hills. Optional extension up to Chew Reservoir for more adventurous walkers.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs can be off-lead on the main reservoir path away from ground-nesting bird areas (April to July). The reservoir provides swimming opportunities at several access points. Carry water for the moorland extension. The path is well-maintained and suitable for most dogs.
Practical Information
