New Forest Ober Water Walk

Ober Water is a beautiful stream that flows through the heart of the New Forest near Brockenhurst. This walk follows the stream through open heathland and ancient woodland, passing free-roaming ponies and offering a quintessential New Forest experience.
The Route
Start from Whitley Wood car park and follow the stream south through open heathland, where New Forest ponies graze beside the water. The path enters Puttles Bridge woodland and follows the stream through dappled shade beneath ancient oaks. Cross the wooden bridge and return via the northern bank, passing through Ober Corner and back to the car park.
Dog-Friendly Details
Dogs must be on leads at all times due to free-roaming livestock. Ober Water is shallow and clean, providing excellent paddling on a lead. The stream crossings are easy and the paths are well-maintained. The walk is flat throughout and suitable for dogs of all ages.

Free car park at Whitley Wood. Brockenhurst village (2 miles) has dog-friendly pubs including The Foresters Arms. The forest is well-drained and walkable year-round. No facilities at the car park.
