Dog Walks In Leicestershire, Top 5

Dog Walks in Leicestershire, Our Favourites

Who doesn’t love spending a sunny afternoon exploring with their dog? Below are our top 5 Dog Walks in Leicestershire.

One of the best things about being a dog owner is spending time exploring new places and seeing new things whilst giving our pooches their much-needed time in the great outdoors.

Below we are going to look at our top 5 dog walks in Leicestershire with something to suit all dog owners and their idea of a good day out!

5)  – Abbey Park Dog Walks

Based on the River Soar, Abbey Park is approximately one mile north of Leicester city centre. The park is split over two sides of the river, with remains of the twelfth century Leicester Abbey to explore on the west side, and the east side being home to the tranquil boating lake and beautiful shrubberies and trees.

Abbey Park is also a great day out for the whole family, with multiple facilities including a bowling green, Café, play area, lavender maze, miniature railway and most importantly a pets corner (one of the many reasons it has made it into our top 5 dog walks in Leicestershire!).

4)  – Bradgate Park Dog Walks

Bradgate Park is a public park located in the Charnwood Forest – north west Leicestershire. Covering over 850 acres, there is certainly a lot of exploring to do!  Within the park runs the river Lin which reaches Cropston Resevoir, a beautiful site which attracts an abundance of wildlife.

The park is home to herds of deer, therefore there are some parts where understandably dogs must be kept on their lead, however approximately 75% of the park dogs are allowed off their leads.

3)  – Swithland Woods

If exploring woodlands is your thing – Swithland Woods is an ancient woodland, home to a wide range of plant and animal species. The woods are free to access and are open during daylight hours. If travelling by car, there is a pay and display car park on site.

Within the woods are two abandoned slate quarries – the sources of Swithland slate, featured on many buildings in the area. These quarries are now flooded and make a beautiful feature to one of our favourite dog walks in Leicestershire.

2)  – Brocks Hill Country Park Dog Walking

Award winning Brocks Hill Country Park is recognised for its well-managed parks and sites for providing habitats for bees. It is home to wide variety of habitats including woodlands, meadows and ponds – all areas are accessible by path.

A family favourite dog walk in Leicestershire, within the park is two play areas and a den building area. There is also an orienteering track – perfect for spending the day investigating new areas with your dog.

1)  – Watermead Country Park Dog Walks
