Who doesn’t love spending a sunny afternoon exploring with their dog? Below are our top 10 Dog Walks in Leicestershire.
One of the best things about being a dog owner is spending time exploring new places and seeing new things whilst giving our pooches their much-needed time in the great outdoors.
Below we are going to look at our top 10 dog walks in Leicestershire with something to suit all dog owners and their idea of a good day out!
1) Foxton Locks
Foxton locks is a Grade II listed locks on the Leicester line of the Gran Union canal and are over 200 years old! There is an impressive 10 locks and are the longest set of staircase locks in Britain. along this pretty walk you will also see ponds which are a haven for wildlife, this place is perfect for inquisitive dogs as theirs always something to see and lots of space to let them have a run around as well as tracks to follow if you’d like a set walk.. The whole family will enjoy Foxton locks as it has a lot to offer. you are surrounded by beautiful countryside and brightly coloured narrow boats. there are two car parks one for long and short stay and numerous bins around for disposing of dog waste.

2) Aylestone Meadows
Aylestone Meadows is Leicesters largest local nature reserve, and has many different types of plants and animals such as otters, swans and badgers which have all made homes here. Previously a railway line it has been transformed into a pathway for cyclist and walkers. Aylestone Meadows is located along the banks of the river soar. There is many of different routes you can take to walk your dog here with beautiful scenery. there is some open areas which are ideal for your dog to have a run around and sniff some new scents.

3) East Carlton Park
East Carlton Country Park is located near market Harborough and is a great day out for the whole family, there is plenty to do and see here, you can buy dog treats and food for the ducks. The views and scenery are just incredible and looks stunning all year round. there is a large car park and its free to park here. East Carlton park has many of different walks with forest areas surrounding making it the perfect place for your dog to run around make new friends and let off some energy.

4) Beacon Hill
Beacon Hill is a beautiful place to visit, located in Loughborough the woodland walks and open heathland make it an ideal place to walk your dogs. Livestock are around so be careful in some areas to keep your dog on leads,There is plenty to see and discover here such as the rhododendron labyrinth and wooden sculptures. you can make the walks as long or short as you want but there is a nice circular walk that takes you around the park. Beacon Hill is very Picturesque and the views are stunning to see all year round.

5) The Outwoods
The Outwoods in Loughborough is 110 acres of ancient woodland and is one of the oldest surviving woodland sites in Charnwood. The Outwoods has many of routes to explore whether you want something easy and short or a long distance walk The outwoods offers it all, and dogs walks to suit all types of dogs. This location is very popular with dog walkers so expect to see a fair few people and pooches whilst visiting. There is a stream half way around so your dog can stop and have a drink of a bit of a splash about. Car parking is available and very cheap as well being £1 for the day.

6) Market Bosworth Country Park
Market Bosworth is a beautiful country park with stunning scenery, it is a lovely place to walk your dog all year round, from seeing the beautiful wildflower meadow flowers and green leaves in summer to Autumn days with different shades of oranges and red it really is stunning. There is also small lakes and ponds around and many different paths that take you around the park whether you want long or short walks there is something for all dogs. Car parking is available but is quite pricey.

5) – Abbey Park Dog Walks
Based on the River Soar, Abbey Park is approximately one mile north of Leicester city centre. The park is split over two sides of the river, with remains of the twelfth century Leicester Abbey to explore on the west side, and the east side being home to the tranquil boating lake and beautiful shrubberies and trees.
Abbey Park is also a great day out for the whole family, with multiple facilities including a bowling green, Café, play area, lavender maze, miniature railway and most importantly a pets corner (one of the many reasons it has made it into our top 5 dog walks in Leicestershire!).

4) – Bradgate Park Dog Walks
Bradgate Park is a public park located in the Charnwood Forest – north west Leicestershire. Covering over 850 acres, there is certainly a lot of exploring to do! Within the park runs the river Lin which reaches Cropston Resevoir, a beautiful site which attracts an abundance of wildlife. The park is home to herds of deer, therefore there are some parts where understandably dogs must be kept on their lead, however approximately 75% of the park dogs are allowed off their leads.

3) – Swithland Woods
If exploring woodlands is your thing – Swithland Woods is an ancient woodland, home to a wide range of plant and animal species. The woods are free to access and are open during daylight hours. If travelling by car, there is a pay and display car park on site. Within the woods are two abandoned slate quarries – the sources of Swithland slate, featured on many buildings in the area. These quarries are now flooded and make a beautiful feature to one of our favourite dog walks in Leicestershire.

2) – Brocks Hill Country Park Dog Walking
Award winning Brocks Hill Country Park is recognised for its well-managed parks and sites for providing habitats for bees. It is home to wide variety of habitats including woodlands, meadows and ponds – all areas are accessible by path. A family favourite dog walk in Leicestershire, within the park is two play areas and a den building area. There is also an orienteering track – perfect for spending the day investigating new areas with your dog.

1) – Watermead Country Park Dog Walks
With a wide range of things to do, Watermead Country Park is a great choice if looking for a fun filled day out for the family (including the dog!). Take a strole along the paths of the tranquil lake, stopping for a picnic and a chance to take in the beautiful scenery and observe the wildlife in their natural habitat. Plan your visit right, and you may get to experience a demonstration and training session held by the local Newfoudland Dog Rescue Group who attend the park at various times of year. Definitely one for all dog lovers!
